It Had To Be You

~ I received no compensation and opinions are 100% my own or my family. ~

Synopsis (from Amazon):
For the past twenty years, Liv and Eliot Goldenhorn have run In Love in New York, Brooklyn’s beloved wedding-planning business. When Eliot dies unexpectedly, he even more unexpectedly leaves half of the business to his younger, blonder girlfriend, Savannah. Liv and Savannah are not a match made in heaven, to say the least. But what starts as a personal and professional nightmare transforms into something even savvy, cynical Liv Goldenhorn couldn’t begin to imagine.

It Had to Be You cleverly unites Liv, Savannah, and couples as diverse and unique as New York City itself, in a joyous Love-Actually-style braided narrative. The result is a smart, modern love story that truly speaks to our times. Second chances, secret romance, and steamy soul mates are front and center in this sexy, tender, and utterly charming rom-com.

One (or more) Sentence Summary: It Had To Be You was a good read with a lot of different stories within a story connecting all the characters by In-Love a wedding planning business.  I never predicted what would happen in the first chapter.  I thought it was all pretty funny until the phone call..

I really like Liv and the journey we went through with her seemed real and raw: sudden loss of a her spouse; learning he left half of the business to his mistress; single mom; failing business; new love; and, second chance.

Than there is Savannah, Liv's late husband's mistress who shows up on her doorstep announcing she is now half owner of In-Love. The two end up developing a relationship which is more work related, but they make it work.  Savannah finds new love in New York, that would not be acceptable back home in the south, by falling in love with a women. The struggles that Savannah goes through seemed so real to me too.  New city, new business, spouse of her lover as a business partner and discovering she is whole new person once she opens up to true feelings.

It Had To Be You has other characters that are sprinkled in as well and I liked them all. Gorman, the florist and his partner Henry experience strains on their relationship that all comes together in the end. Zach and Darlene, the wedding entertainment was one of my favorite stories.  Zach comes from money and due to get a large trust when he turns 25; however, his parents think he needs to find a wife first.  He and Darlene strike a deal and end up really falling love.  And lets not forget Zia, the a sometimes wait person at weddings when she isn't traveling the globe with Global Care, and Clay, a famous actor, who accidentally bump into each and end up falling in love.

Even though there are lots of characters with their own stories they are all connected throughout the book and it works really well.  Enjoyable book that was a quick read.
