Vacation

~ I received a copy of this book from the publisher or author to facilitate this review.  I received no compensation and opinions are 100% my own or my family. ~

Synopsis (from Amazon): Dr. William Koval, a pragmatist with little faith in humanity, prefers to dwell in the eerily comforting microscopic realm, where he is master of his domain. But his worldview is upended when he decides to go on the English walking tour his wife had been planning before her murder three years earlier. Only when William confronts his past, including his troubled marriage, will he find a way to rejoin the living, to move forward, and perhaps love again. The real journey, he discovers, lies within.

My Review:  Vacation was a great read!  Perfect anytime of the year!

Favorite Character(s):  My favorite characters were Ralph and Winfred.  Even though they were not the main characters they added humor to the story.  Two others were Beatrice and Claudine.  The mother daughter pair added a lot of color to the England part of the story.  Of course throughout the book I was cheering for William.  As I learned more about Kathleen, I found I was really disappointed in her and her choices.  However, those choices laid the foundation for the story.

Setting:  I LOVED it.  I would love to do a walking tour (bike, bus, car, train - any kind of tour through England!) through England.  The scenes are so well described, I could purchase myself as part of the touring group.

Fast read/slow read:  This book was such a fast read.  I love fast reads! The story really moved along.  I also never saw the connection between William and Annie and what a twist it made to the story! Holy Cow.....couldn't stop reading!

Cover:  Not my favorite.

One Sentence Summary:  Vacation was a fun read.  I loved the setting, most of it took place in England and the rest in Seattle.  I still can't get over the connection between William and Annie.  All the characters and their personalities really made a great story!

Would I Read Other Books by the Author: Yes, I would!

  1. It sounds interesting! I can understand why the cover isn't your favorite (it's a little bland), that is what the path looks like on these walking tours. So, the cover works for me.

  2. I loved the book and I love the cover. I found William to be a sympathetic character and I rooted for him to open his eyes and get on with his life. The connection with Annie--that was a total surprise, but just the right thing to allow William to finally transcend his past. I'm goping to read it again when it comes out on Kindle and I'm on my vacation!
