Aoléon, The Martian Girl

~ I received no compensation and opinions are 100% my own or my family. ~

Synopsis: Crop circles magically appear in Farmer Johnson’s field. A mysterious light sweeps over the night sky and awakens Farmer Johnson and Gilbert, the boy next door.

Curious, Gilbert ventures out to discover the source of the light and stumbles into a beautiful Martian girl sitting in a crop circle. Farmer Johnson also investigates the strange light, and thinking that Gilbert and Aoléon are vandals, he chases them. But they sprint to Aoléon’s saucer and escape only to be pursued by the U.S. Air Force.

Gilbert has never been attacked by swarms of giant killer robots. Never met strange aliens from other worlds. Never skyboarded across a megalopolis hidden deep inside an extinct volcano. Never trekked across a vast Martian desert. And never been eaten alive by a gigantic slor (well, almost never, unless you count Billy the fat bully at school).

And luckily, he has never ever confronted an evil ruler of Mars bent on conquering the Earth to steal its cows.

Never...until now!

This may be the adventure Gilbert always wished for.

If only he can survive.

One (or more) Sentence Summary:  My mom knows I like sic-fi books and is always after me to read, read, read.  She told me I had to read Aoléon, The Martian Girl and I thought to myself….why me?  Now I am saying, Yes, me!!!  I really liked it! Gilbert is awaken by a bright light and goes out into the field to investigate it.  Before he knows what is happening, he "bumps" in Aoléon, a martian girl.  In an attempt to run away from Farmer Johhson, he joins Aoléon aboard her ship.  After being chased by the Air Force all over the United States, London, and Paris, they head to Mars. Once on Mars, they find out they are the "chosen ones……"

Favorite Character(s):  It is a tie between Aoléon and Tripod, the dog!  What can I say, I love animals!

Setting:  Nebraska and Mars!

Fast read/slow read:  I am a slow reader and was sick for 4 days, but I would say it is a fast read.  I think Aoléon, The Martian Girl would make a great book for a classroom read-a-long or a book report. Perfect for grades 5 - 7th.

Cover:  I liked the cover, but I even liked the pictures through the book more.  They weren't 3-D but they had "moving" effect on me.  Maybe it was my mom's iPad, but I thought they were very cool.
